Skipper Limited was formerly incorporated as 'Skipper Investments Limited' in 1981. The Company name was changed to 'Skipper Steels Limited' in 1990 and diversified into manufacture of Telecom Towers and Masts. In 2009, the name once again was changed to 'Skipper Limited'.
The Company is a part of the Kolkata-based S. K. Bansal Group that was established in 1961 by Mr. Sadhu Ram Bansal. It became a prominent operator in manufacturing tubular poles, towers (telecoms and transmission) and PVC pipes. The Company is presently engaged into manufacturing and selling of Transmission & Distribution Structures (Towers & Poles) as its Engineering Products segment and CPVC, UPVC, PVC, SWR Pipes & Fittings, as its Polymer segment. It is also involved in execution of EPC projects as the infrastruct ...ure segment.
The Company set up a LPG Cylinder unit in 2001. In 2013, the company set up first tube mill and in 2015 set up first Galvanising plant of the company. In 2006, the company got Powergrid approval for Tower unit and order for 400KV. The company also entered into a manufacturing tie-up with Ramboll, Denmark, world's largest Tower designing company. In 2007, the company entered into value addition of Steel Tubes as scaffoldings. In 2008, the company Started process of conversion of Tower production process from manual to Automated CNC. In 2009, the company got India's first order for 800KV transmission tower from PGCIL. The company also Commissioned Uluberia unit with first PVC unit and India's first double side Tube GI Plant. In 2010, the company entered into backward integration of the two major product verticals Tubes and Towers, by way of Strip mill and Angle mill.
The Company completed engineering activities for Mantaro - Montalvo Project in Peru in 2016. It also commissioned the Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Sikandarabad (UP) plants, taking the Company's combined installed capacity for PVC products to 35000 MT. The Company increased its T&D manufacturing capacity from 100,000 MTPA to 230,000 MTPA in FY2017. It emerged as the largest manufacturer of T&D Structures in India.
The Second Guwahati Plant commissioned operations in March, 2017. The Engineering products' capacity enhanced by 35,000 MT during the year 2017 and the total installed capacity stood at 265,000 MT. In 2018, the Company entered Joint Venture with Metzerplas for Micro-irrigation products. It ventured into Solar Mounting Structure and Railway Electrification Sector. It commissioned the largest Tower & Monopole Load Testing Station in India in 2020. In 2021, the Company completed and charged the 400 kV Jigmeling Alipurduar Transmission (JATL) project for Powergrid Corporation Of India Limited (PGCIL) in Assam. It completed 765 kV S/C Fatehgarh 2 to Badla 2 project in 2022.
The Company introduced new products such as CP bath fittings and water storage tanks under the 'Marina' brand through expansion in FY 2024. It emerged as the most preferred supplier & contractor of PGCIL to their high voltage 765 KV transmission lines & poles in FY 2025. The Company fabricated India's heaviest 400kV transmission pole in FY 2025. The Company diversified into civil and electrical components within its transmission and distribution (T&D) projects during the year.
