Mumbai, 6th May – Indian equities ended in the red on Monday, with benchmark indices halting their two-day winning streak amid global caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy outcome. The Nifty 50 fell 81.55 points or 0.33% to close at 24,379.60, while the Sensex slipped 155.77 points or 0.19% to end at 80,641.07. Weakness in heavyweight financial and infrastructure stocks weighed on the broader market.

Hero MotoCorp, Bharti Airtel, and Hindustan Unilever emerged as the top gainers on the Nifty 50, while Adani Enterprises, Jio Financial Services, and Eternal were among the biggest losers of the session.

Nifty Top Gainers and Losers on May 6

Key Triggers

  • Adani Enterprises led the losses with a steep 4.3% drop, possibly due to profit booking and sectoral underperformance in infrastructure and energy names.
  • Jio Financial Services fell 3.68%, and Eternal (parent of Zomato) fell by 3.00%, continuing their downward trajectory as investor sentiment was guarded in financial and consumer technology stocks.
  • Trent Ltd. fell 2.80%, and SBI Life Insurance Corp. fell 2.53% due to valuation fears and tepid investor enthusiasm for insurance stocks.
  • Conversely, Hero MotoCorp maintained its upward trend, increasing 2.48% amidst optimism in the auto sector.
  • Bharti Airtel gained 1.61%, and Tata Steel rose by 1.37%, driven by expectations of stable operational performance and demand strength.

Bottomline

The Nifty 50 slipped as global uncertainty and stock-specific declines pressured market sentiment. Heavyweights like Adani Enterprises and Jio Financial weighed on the index, even as defensives like FMCG and telecom stocks offered some support. As the US Fed meeting looms, traders are likely to stay selective and cautious in the sessions ahead.—- in this– in key triggers mention how much the stock moved.
