Indian stock exchanges will observe two trading holidays in April 2026, as markets enter the first full month of FY27.

As per the official holiday calendar released by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), both exchanges will remain closed on the following dates.

Equity Market Holidays – April 2026

Trading in the cash and equity derivatives (F&O) segments will remain closed on:

  • April 3 (Friday) – Good Friday
  • April 14 (Tuesday) – Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti

Both holidays fall on weekdays. April 3 falls on a Friday, creating a three-day break from Thursday close to Monday open. April 14 falls on a Tuesday. Investors should account for the T+1 settlement cycle when placing trades on April 11 and April 13.

Currency Derivatives Segment – April 2026

The currency derivatives segment will observe three closures in April:

  • April 1 (Wednesday) – Annual Bank Closing
  • April 3 (Friday) – Good Friday
  • April 14 (Tuesday) – Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti

Equity markets will remain open on April 1. Only currency derivatives trading will be unavailable on that date. On April 3 and April 14, both equity and currency segments will remain closed.

Commodity Market Schedule – April 2026

Commodity trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be affected as follows:

  • April 3 (Friday) – Good Friday – full day closed, morning and evening sessions
  • April 14 (Tuesday) – Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti – morning session closed, evening session open

MCX operates in two sessions: a daytime session and an evening session linked to global markets including gold and crude oil. On April 14, traders can participate in the evening session. On April 3, the exchange will remain shut for the entire day.

April marks the start of FY27, a period when institutional portfolios typically rebalance and trading volumes reset. Three currency derivatives closures, two equity market shutdowns, and one full MCX holiday compress effective trading days. Investors and traders should review open positions and pending settlement obligations ahead of each date.
