About Maruti Suzuki India Ltd

Maruti Suzuki India Limited was incorporated on February 24, 1981 with the name 'Maruti Udyog Limited'. The Company changed its name from Maruti Udyog Limited to Maruti Suzuki India Limited with effect from September 17, 2007. A joint venture agreement was signed between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan in 1982. The Company became a subsidiary of SMC in 2002. In terms of production volume and sales, the Company is now SMC's largest subsidiary. As of 31st March 2026, SMC holds 58.53% of its equity stake. Maruti Suzuki India Limited is India's largest passenger car company, accounting for over 50% of the domestic car market. The Company offers full range of cars from entry level Maruti Alto to stylish hatchback Ritz, A-star, Swift, Wagon R, Estillo and sedans DZire, SX4 and Sports Utility Vehicle, Grand Vitara. The Company is the market leader of Passenger Vehicles in India and is largest exporter of Passenger Vehicles in India. It has two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana, capable of producing ~1.5 million units per annum. The principal activities of the Company are manufacturing, purchase and sale of motor vehicles, components and spare parts. The other activities of the Company comprise facilitation of pre-owned car sales, fleet management and car financing.
