The HDFC Bank share price closed 1.49% lower at ₹692.25 on the NSE on Thursday. FIIs reduced their holding in India’s biggest private lender to 39.39% in the September quarter, from 41.82% in the June quarter.

HDFC Bank shares opened at ₹704.05 and touched a high of ₹705.80 on the NSE. The stock then slipped to a day’s low of ₹690.50. It closed at ₹692.25, down ₹10.50 from the previous close of ₹702.75. A total of 2,68,08,765 shares changed hands on the NSE.

Who Is Anup Bagchi, HDFC Bank’s New Chief Executive? 

Anup Bagchi will formally take charge as HDFC Bank’s managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) on October 27, 2026. He joined the bank’s board as an additional director on October 2, 2026. Bagchi currently serves as CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. 

He earlier held senior roles at ICICI Bank, India’s second-biggest private lender, where he oversaw the retail and wholesale banking businesses.

  • He is 56 years old. 
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules cap a bank CEO’s age at 70. 

In March 2026, chairman Atanu Chakraborty resigned over governance concerns. An independent legal review did not substantiate his claims. 

What Did HDFC Bank’s September-Quarter Business Update Show? 

HDFC Bank reported a 16.3% rise in gross advances and a rise of around 18.8% in deposits as of September end. The bank released these provisional figures on October 3, 2026. 

Outlook 

HDFC Bank is scheduled to announce its results for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q2 FY27) on October 17, 2026. The results are due ten days before Bagchi takes charge as MD and CEO.
