About Bombay Talkies Ltd

Bombay Talkies Limited was originally incorporated on September 03, 1984 as 'Lyttleton Leasing & Finance Limited' under the Companies Act, 1956 with the Registrar of Companies, Maharashtra. The Company had obtained Certificate for Commencement of Business on September 29, 1984 from the Registrar of Companies, Maharashtra. Thereafter, name of the Company was changed to Future Securities Limited on May 21, 1992. Subsequently, it changed to Asianet Software & Multimedia Limited on April 07, 2000 and again to White Lion Asia Limited and a fresh certificate of incorporation was issued by the Registrar of Companies, Mumbai on July 28, 2000. Thereafter the name of the Company was changed to Bombay Talkies Limited vide fresh certificate of incorporation dated September 20, 2002. Running for 20 years and releasing 40 films, Bombay Talkies became India's most innovative and highly resourced movie studios. It was credited with introducing the musical narrative structure that characterises modern Bollywood, and launched the careers of several prominent Indian film industry luminaries including superstars Ashok Kumar (1911-2001) and Leela Chitnis (1909-2003). Entrepreneurial filmmaker Himansu Rai (1892-1940) and his movie-star wife Devika Rani (1908-1994) played a crucial role in the development of mainstream Bombay cinema.
