Stock Market Holidays in August 2026: Will NSE & BSE Remain Closed This Month?

Traders and investors often check the stock market holiday calendar to plan their trading activities. If you’re wondering whether the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed in August 2026, there are no weekday trading holidays during the month. 

Although Independence Day falls on August 15, it is a Saturday, which is already a regular market holiday. 

Why No Stock Market Holiday in August 2026? 

Independence Day, this year falls on a Saturday due to which there is no stock market holiday in the month of August. So, no extra weekday holiday has been declared by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for the month of August 2026. 

As such, investors can look forward to witnessing no stock market trading holidays in August 2026. This applies to trading only. August 26 remains a trading day but is a settlement holiday, covered below. 

Weekend Holidays for Stock Market in August 2026 

Although there are no weekdays off for the stock market, the exchanges remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays in August 2026. The dates for the same have been mentioned below:

• 8th August (Saturday) 

• 9th August (Sunday) 

• 15th August (Saturday) 

• 16th August (Sunday)

Apart from these regular weekend closures, there are no additional stock market trading holidays in August 2026. 

NSE & BSE Trading Hours in August 2026 

The trading hours for the equity segment at NSE and BSE remain the same throughout the month of August 2026. 

They are as follows: 

Pre-open session: 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM
Regular trading session: 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM
Closing session: 3:30 PM to 3:40 PM 

These timings apply to both the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange equity segments. 

Is August 26 a Settlement Holiday? 

Yes, while the NSE and BSE remain open for trading on 26 August 2026, it is a settlement holiday, so clearing and settlement of trades will not take place that day. This is separate from a trading holiday, when the exchanges themselves are closed. 

This has two effects for investors: 

• Shares bought on 25 August or 26 August can only be sold from 27 August onward, once settlement resumes. 

• Intraday profits made on 25 August will not reflect in the trading account balance immediately, due to delayed settlement processing. 

Outlook 

With no weekday trading holidays in August 2026, the NSE and BSE will operate as usual throughout the month for trading, except for regular Saturday and Sunday closures. However, 26 August 2026 is a settlement holiday, so investors should account for the delay in clearing and settlement when planning trades around that date.
