Shares of IDFC First Bank rose more than 5% in trade after the private lender posted its highest-ever quarterly profit for the June quarter of FY27. At 2:41 pm IST, the stock traded at ₹84.98 on the NSE, up 5.19%.
Record profit drives the rally
The bank reported a profit after tax of ₹1,075 crore for the quarter, up 132.4% from ₹463 crore in the same period last year. The sharp jump points to continued business momentum even as the bank keeps investing in its expansion.
Loan book and customer business grow steadily
Loans and advances rose 20.6% year on year to ₹3,05,370 crore as of June 30, 2026, against ₹2,53,233 crore a year earlier. Total customer business, covering deposits and loans together, grew 18.6% to ₹6,04,776 crore from ₹5,10,031 crore.
Asset quality improves further
Gross NPA declined to 1.51% from 1.97% a year ago, while net NPA improved to 0.44% from 0.55%. Net interest margin rose to 5.96% from 5.71% in the same quarter last year, showing the bank earning more from lending while keeping bad loans in check.
Managing Director and CEO V. Vaidyanathan said the bank remains focused on building a high-quality institution with strong governance. He noted continued business momentum, further improvement in gross and net NPAs, and a decline in provisions as a percentage of loans.
The bank received a CGFMU claim of ₹515 crore during the quarter, and set aside an equal contingency provision as a precaution against a possibly uncertain monsoon or fuel price volatility. Vaidyanathan added that investments made over recent years are now paying off, improving operating leverage and helping return on assets cross the 1% mark.
What’s driving investor sentiment
The combination of record profit, healthy loan growth, stronger margins, lower bad loans and cautious provisioning has lifted market confidence. Maintaining profitability despite the added contingency provision also signalled resilience in the bank’s balance sheet, together driving the stock over 5% higher in trade.
