BSE Holiday List 2026

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is closed on the dates listed below in 2026. BSE issues its calendar by circular each December for the equity, equity derivatives and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments. Beyond the 16 weekday closures below, BSE holidays include every Saturday and Sunday.

The commodity derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segments follow a split schedule on several of the same dates.

List of BSE trading holidays 2026

When a Sensex weekly or monthly expiry falls on one, the contract settles the previous trading day. That is what happened in January, when the 15 January expiry moved to 14 January.

Block deal session timings on BSE

BSE runs two block deal windows. The morning one is 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, before the pre-open begins. The afternoon one is 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM. Both are for large negotiated trades that clear the exchange’s minimum order value.

FAQs

Are currency and commodity markets also closed on BSE holidays?

Not always, and not in the same way. Currency derivatives run a separate calendar with extra dates such as Gudhi Padwa and Annual Bank Closing. Commodity derivatives and EGR usually close the morning session only and reopen at 5:00 PM. On Republic Day, Good Friday, Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas, both sessions stay shut.

Yes. India settles on T+1, so a holiday pushes the settlement date out. January is the clearest example. When 15 January 2026 became a trading holiday, trades from both 14 and 15 January settled together on 16 January. If you have a pay-in obligation or a withdrawal planned around a holiday, plan ahead.

Yes. After-market orders can be placed through your broker on a holiday and are queued for release when the market reopens. They reach the exchange before the pre-open session on the next trading day, and you can change or cancel them until they are pushed through.

Settlement moves to the next working day on which both the exchange and the clearing banks are open. Nothing is cancelled and no obligation disappears. The pay-in and pay-out shift, the exchange notifies the revised calendar by circular, and your contract note and ledger will show the new dates.
