NSE Holiday List 2026

Here’s every date the National Stock Exchange (NSE) is closed in 2026. NSE publishes the list by circular each year for the equity, equity derivatives and SLB segments. Besides the 16 weekday closures below, NSE holidays include every Saturday and Sunday.

Keep in mind that the NSE holiday list is not the same for every segment. Commodities and currency derivatives run their own calendars.

List of NSE trading holidays 2026

Nothing trades in equity, equity derivatives or SLB on these dates. When a weekly or monthly expiry falls on one, the contract settles on the previous trading day instead. That happens twice in 2026: the March monthly expiry moves to 25 March, and the May monthly expiry to 27 May.

Mahashivratri February 15, 2026 Sunday
Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid) March 21, 2026 Saturday

Settlement holidays (2026)

Four dates below are settlement holidays, separate from the NSE holiday list. A settlement holiday is a day when stock exchanges stay open for regular trading, but clearing corporations, depositories such as the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), and clearing banks stay closed, delaying the transfer of funds and shares by a working day.

NSE trading schedule

Pre-open timings to trade equities on NSE

The pre-open session is from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM. Orders go in and can be changed between 9:00 and 9:08, with a random cut-off in the final minute so nobody can time it. Matching and confirmation follow, then a short buffer to the regular open.

Regular trading timings to trade equities on NSE

Continuous trading runs 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. A closing session follows from 3:40 PM to 4:00 PM, where orders execute at the closing price worked out from the last half hour of trade.

Block deal session timings on NSE

Two windows a day. The first runs 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, before the pre-open. The second runs 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM. Both exist for large negotiated trades, mostly between institutions.

FAQs

Are NSE trading holidays the same for all segments?

No. Equity, equity derivatives and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) share one calendar. Commodity derivatives usually close the morning session and reopen at 5:00 PM. Currency derivatives have their own list with four extra dates in 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Gudhi Padwa, Annual Bank Closing and Id-E-Milad.

No. On a notified holiday the exchange is closed and no equity order can execute. Muhurat Trading on Diwali is the one standing exception. Separately, NSE can call a special session for an event. For example, NSE traded on Sunday, 01 February 2026, for the Union Budget presentation.

Yes. Most brokers, PL Capital included, accept after-market orders on a holiday. They sit in a queue and go to the exchange when the market next opens, ahead of the pre-open session. Nothing executes on the holiday itself, and you can change or cancel the order until it goes to the exchange.

For equity and equity derivatives, no. Both exchanges follow the same 16 weekday holidays in 2026 and the same four weekend dates. Differences show up in the narrower segments and in one-off special sessions. If you trade on both, check each circular rather than assuming.
