Commodity market holidays work differently from equity ones. MCX contracts track global benchmarks that keep trading while Indian markets are shut, so on most holidays only the morning session closes. The evening session opens as usual at 5:00 PM. Four dates in 2026 are full closures.
The table below gives session-level status for every MCX trading holiday in the year, so you can tell at a glance whether a position can still be managed that evening.
List of MCX trading holidays 2026
Seventeen weekday commodity market holidays apply in 2026. NCDEX broadly follows the same MCX holiday list for its agricultural contracts.

MCX timings 2026
MCX runs a longer day than the equity market because commodity prices are set overseas. Trading opens at 9:00 AM. When it closes depends on the contract. Agricultural contracts finish earlier, while bullion, base metals and energy run into the night alongside the US session. Daylight saving in the reference market moves the close between 11:30 PM and 11:55 PM, and the exchange notifies the switch by circular.
Build note: the non-agricultural row carries two lines inside one cell. Do not split it into two rows.
Products of MCX and NCDEX
MCX lists futures and options in bullion, which means gold and silver, including the mini and micro contracts. It also lists base metals such as copper, zinc, lead, aluminium and nickel. Energy contracts cover crude oil and natural gas. A few agricultural commodities are listed too, including cotton, crude palm oil, mentha oil and cardamom. NCDEX is the agricultural specialist, with contracts in guar, chana, jeera, coriander, castor seed, soybean and mustard. SEBI regulates both.
FAQs
Is MCX open for trading on weekends or public holidays?
MCX is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, with the Muhurat session on 08 November 2026 as the exception. Public holidays depend on the date. On most MCX holidays the morning session closes and the evening session opens at 5:00 PM, so check the session-level table above before you write the day off.
Are there half-day trading sessions on MCX during festivals?
Yes, and they are the norm. Twelve of the seventeen commodity market holidays in 2026 close the morning session and open the evening session from 5:00 PM. It keeps Indian prices in line with the overseas markets that carry on trading through Indian festivals.
Is trading available on MCX during Muhurat trading?
Yes. MCX holds a Muhurat session alongside NSE and BSE on Diwali Laxmi Pujan, which is Sunday, 08 November 2026. It is a short evening window, usually about an hour, and orders execute normally inside it. Timings are notified by circular beforehand.
Are there MCX-specific holidays not observed by NSE and BSE?
The dates mostly overlap, but the treatment differs. New Year’s Day is the clearest case: 01 January 2026 is a normal trading day for equities, while MCX shuts its evening session because the global reference markets are closed. Beyond that one date, the morning-closed, evening-open pattern on other holidays is also unique to the commodity segment, something NSE and BSE don’t follow.
